Dr. Scott Carle, Physician and Artist. One of a Kind.

For over 42 years, Dr. Scott Carle has practiced medicine, healing patients across Central Arkansas with the precision, discipline, and quiet dedication that defines a great physician. For over 55 years, he has painted bringing explosive color, bold dimension, and the full force of his imagination to large canvases that stop people in their tracks.

Very few people do one of these things at a world-class level. Dr. Carle does both.

A Physician First

Scott Carle, M.D. has spent more than four decades serving patients in Central Arkansas, specializing in Occupational Medicine. He practiced with Concentra Health Services and serves as a medical consultant for Pinnacle Pointe Behavioral Healthcare System in Little Rock. The same qualities that make him an exceptional doctor, meticulous attention to detail, a deep understanding of the human experience, and an ability to see what others miss are the very qualities that animate every painting he creates.

Medicine and art are not opposites in Scott Carle's world. They are two expressions of the same relentless curiosity about life.

An Artist Since Childhood

Scott Carle picked up a brush at age nine and never put it down. His grandfater, A.P. Finken, sparked Scott's artistic life. Finken was a German immigrant, self taught painter, Stuttgart Arts Festival founder, city and DAR honoree, and mentor to Smithsonian collected print maker James Carl Hancock. Over 60 years later, Scott's work has evolved into something genuinely rare, including large-scale botanical paintings, often spanning up to twelve feet and most recently, six by nine foot work.

He begins every painting the same way: a large canvas or hardwood panel, painted black. Then, layer by layer, color by color, a flower emerges vivid, dimensional, alive. Daffodils that seem to lean toward the light. Roses that pulse with a warmth you can almost feel. Passion flowers of such complexity they reward ten minutes of looking with new discoveries.

"It's an opportunity to create images without rules or timelines," Dr. Carle says of his painting life a philosophy that stands in beautiful contrast to the structured world of medicine, and one that gives his work its unmistakable freedom and energy.

Why the Combination Matters

A fifth-generation Arkansan from Stuttgart, Scott Carle has spent his entire life in two worlds that most people keep separate. The discipline of medicine sharpens the artist's eye. The freedom of art sustains the physician's spirit. Together they produce something the art world rarely sees a body of work that carries both the precision of a scientist and the soul of a visionary.

Art historian Edward Lucie-Smith predicted that the future of collecting would favor works of real personality. Dr. Scott Carle's paintings are exactly that. They are not decorations. They are experiences bold, joyful, and deeply personal statements from a man who has spent over half a century learning how to see the world clearly, and another half century learning how to show it to the rest of us.

The Work Today

Dr. Carle's paintings are available as original works and custom commissions.  He and his wife Denise live in Little Rock, Arkansas, where they raised five children. He paints live in his studio, often on weekend mornings, and welcomes the world to watch at ScottsWebcam.com.

A doctor who lets the world watch him paint in real time.
